Biography

Sanjay Sharma is Professor in the School of Liberal Studies at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi, India. He has held research appointments at Indiana University, USA and served as Leverhulme Trust Visiting International Professor at the University of Dundee, UK. His research focuses on the social, cultural and economic history of modern South Asia, particularly famine, hunger, welfare, philanthropy, food security and market ethics. He received his PhD in History from SOAS, University of London. His publications include Famine, Philanthropy and the Colonial State: North India in the Early Nineteenth Century (2001), along with articles and chapters on modern South Asian history.
