Biography

Jennifer Van Horn is Professor of Art History and History at the University of Delaware. She is the author of Portraits of Resistance: Activating Art During Slavery (2022), which discusses enslaved African Americans’ creative re-use of portraits during the American Civil War. Her first monograph focused on material culture in the eighteenth-century United States. Forgetting and re-memory through material things is a theme of several essays and articles, including two co-authored essays that she published in Panorama, and a special issue of the journal Winterthur Portfolio that she guest co-edited.
