Kris Salata

Biography

Kris Salata is Professor of Performance and Chair of the School of Theatre at Florida State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Drama and Humanities from Stanford University. His research brings theatre practice into conversation with performance theory, philosophy, and critical theory, with particular emphasis on actor training and the work of Jerzy Grotowski. He is the author of The Unwritten Grotowski: Theory and Practice of the Encounter (2013) and Theatre’s Carnal Prayer: Acting After Grotowski (2020). His current research, developed examines the ethics of rehearsal and actor training, particularly questions of vulnerability, submission, and consent.
