Stephanie Farnsworth's Cyberpunk 2077: Cyborg Bodies, Community, and Culture advances a critical, interdisciplinary exegesis of CD Projekt Red's landmark title. Drawing on multiple theoretical frameworks to interrogate the video game's narrative, ludic, and cultural architectures afresh, the study remains accessible to fans while providing scholars with a robust and generative foundation for critical inquiry.

Cyberpunk 2077: Cyborg Bodies, Community and Culture by Stephanie Farnsworth reads so well along the main critical points of the game that I started hearing the characteristic, mechanical, twisted theme by Marcin Przybylowicz just a couple of phrases into the book. Stephanie masterfully captured both the energizing rhythm of cyberpunk's explosive atmosphere in her writing and translated its disturbing undertones into a critical analysis of the core problematics of the game: the relationship between body and power. The book takes Cyberpunk 2077 seriously, as a culturally loaded artifact of contemporaneity, and it does due justice to the gaming culture.

As game studies has matured as a field, the need for book-length research dedicated to single games has become as apparent as it is unavailable. Stephanie Farnsworth's masterful analysis of CD Projekt RED's Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) offers a welcome intervention as the first volume for the much-needed Video Games In Focus series. Deftly drawing upon monster theory, trauma studies, cybernetic theory, cultural studies, and posthumanism, Cyberpunk 2077: Cyborg Bodies, Community, and Culture reveals how the speculative dystopia Night City has much to tell us about our world today. This is a must-read for those interested in Cyberpunk 2077 and how videogames represent and contend with the cultural logics of late capitalism.
