Biography

Kris Van Heuckelom is Professor of Cultural Studies at the University of Leuven, Belgium. He specializes in late modern Polish literature and culture, with a particular focus on comparative and transnational perspectives. His most recent books are Polish Migrants in European Film 1918–2017 (2019) and Nostalgia, solidarnosc, (im)potencja. Obrazy polskiej migracji w kinie europejskim (2022). Over the past few years, he contributed book chapters to volumes such as Being Poland: A New History of Polish Literature and Culture Since 1918 (2018), The Routledge World Companion to Polish Literature (2021), European Film Remakes (2021), and Rethinking Modern Polish Identities (2023). In 2023, his scholarship in Polish Studies has been recognized with the Jan Kochanowski Award (for the "best monograph published by a Polonist working abroad").
