This open access book provides an overview of the history, development, and future of offshore wind in the United States. Within the context of the history wind energy, the authors conduct a comparative case study analysis of the current status of offshore wind in three areas of the United States: New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Gulf of Mexico. Each region exemplifies a different stage of offshore wind development, examining the development of the U.S. off-shore wind energy industry in from start to finish. Beyond the U.S., the authors include a critical comparative analysis to the more developed offshore wind industry of Europe, to better examine the potential projected future (or lack thereof) for the offshore wind industry in the United States.
